appreciating contrasts
By KathGood Morning Everyone,
As I peruse the morning’s headlines first on Yahoo News, then the Huffington Post, on to the NY Times and BBC, I am struck by the amazing variety of ideas and opinions on all subjects from all points of the globe. Contrasting, sometimes conflicting opinions arise. I am struck by how valuable opposing and differing opinions are to all of us.
Take for example, Amy Chua, Yale Law School Professor. Amy’s written a memoir, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, which tells of her controversial parenting style. When such a subject as motherhood is in play, everyone is stirred. This issue strikes close to our hearts…and egos. I won’t get into the pros and cons of Amy’s style, because the point is that such an extreme brought out into the light and Amy’s courage to share her journey with the world serves us all.
We compare and contrast. What we think, feel and execute versus what she puts forth is now up for review. She gives us the opportunity to consider something new, appreciate her frankness and vulnerabilities, and take stock of what we appreciate, what we would like to do more of, and if we can – see what we don’t like in our own methods and adjust them posthaste.
Anytime you read something, hear something or see something that evokes an emotional response from you, take heart. It’s a good thing. You have the opportunity to revisit your own ideas. You have the chance to see what part of that revolting thing is you and release it forever. You have the opportunity to change if you’re willing to look, stop judging the person and use the item to expand your consciousness to include more Love.
Thanks for reading,
Kath
