consciousness and social media marketing
By KathGood Morning Everyone!
It’s a gorgeous cool Spring morning here in Ohio. Definitely an 11 out of 10.
Of late, I have been studying social media marketing in conjunction with applied spirituality, wondering how these seemingly disparate topics merge. To discover this last night I attended the keynote speech for the Social Media Success Summit 2010 sponsored by Mike Stelzner. Mike’s the go-to guy about whitepapers and has recently become an expert voice in social media marketing. I first came across Mike, a San Diego guy, when I was still living in San Diego. He’s an upstanding and quality individual, which is always what catches my attention.I have always been of the school that says build a better mouse trap and you’ll have the world at your feet. So intent have I been on my own subject of applied spirituality that as a writer, I would much rather be speaking about applied spirituality, coaching, or writing books and articles. However, as a business owner, I have to pay attention to diseminating my message out into the world so you will benefit and improve your life – my passion.
Back in 1997 when the idea of owning your own computer was gaining steam, I was resistant. I thought it would be another way for people to avoid their lives much like television. Then one day a friend came to visit and say to me of the internet, “Kath, it’s pure consciousness.” In that very instant I understood the power of the internet. Likewise, I now understand the power of social media. The word I have been resistant to is marketing.
For most of my life I have been in one business or another. I’ve owned/operated a liquor store; sport fishing boats; a restaurant and represented mortgage lenders and organic personal care products. Throughout these endeavors – prior to internet – the better job you did for someone (product, service and above all Quality), the word spread and success followed. I never really had to pay too much attention to marketing.
Mulling this over for the past months, I had to come to grips with my own resistance to marketing. And, as we all know, by the Law of Attraction, what you resist gets bigger. Arg. Like everyone of you, I have to do my own inner work daily to deliberately change my vibration on any subject when I become aware of my own internal resistant state. Nothing external changes until I make my own, inner shift. Thus, because I know Mike to be the man he is, I decided to relax and learn.
As I listened to Guy Kawasaki last night, I marveled at the command and yes, even passion, this man has for his subject. He’s a genius at understanding what the “product” or “service” really means and represents to the end buyer, thus helping others to better understand that what they are “marketing” is not the service or product, but the energy of passion of who you are. I could feel myself easing inside.
The essence of marketing is being who you are, authentically your Godself conveying through your physical format (terms I can relate to).
This morning I watched this video clip of Jay Baer of convinceandconvert.com and saw the same Life moving through him as he spoke about social media. Interestingly he says that in order to use social media you have to “be” first, then communicate that. It is not about selling in his mind. He talks about how social media sites are simply tools to convey your beingness to the world. Now that’s a concept I can embrace fully, because that’s what applied spirituality is all about: helping you (individual or organization) to identify and convey more of Who You Really Are (God having a lusty physical adventure) to the world.
Enjoy the video and thanks for reading! Kath
