what are we to make of natural disasters?

Good Morning Everyone!

As if the 8.9 earthquake last week in Japan wasn’t enough. Then they suffer the tsunami that followed. Today health concerns take the forefront with the third explosion at a nuclear power plant. What are we to make of this size calamity? How is Well Being at play, because it is. But where? Natural events that have devastated human civilizations have been occurring since the beginning. Just recently there appeared the news story on Reuters that as a result of the tsunami, they believe the lost city of Atlantis may be  found as a result.  Most probably Atlantis was lost due to a similar natural event long ago. Most probably the inhabitants of Atlantis were similarly dismayed as we are today.

Yellowstone Fire 1988

I believe perspective is desperately called for here to understand the Flow of Life. Modern man has forgotten or perhaps never quite understood in the first place that we are natural creatures living on the planet just as the critters in the forest and the creatures of the seas. Similarly, were the dinosaurs natural creatures, too. What lies beneath our fears as watch events unfold in Japan, Haiti, Chile, and the Southern California fires is our fear of death. Modern medicine has devoted itself to thwarting death, as if it were the enemy. But death is part and parcel, integral to Life in this Universe. Destruction precedes rebirth. I recall the devastating Yellowstone fire of 1988. It raged for days seemingly destroying everything. Yet, in 1995 I had the opportunity to go on a pack trip into this forest and witnessed a carpet of lodge pole pine seedlings becoming the new forest. In 2002 the Cedar Fire raced through the back country of San Diego County, which I experienced first hand. Nearly 3000 homes were lost and over 300,000 acres burnt. Everywhere one looked it was a moonscape. Yet the neighborhoods and natural forests are thriving now. In the spring that followed the fire, new wildflowers were seen as a result, such as wild peonies.

This world, our planet Earth is an integral part of a Natural Universe which is elegant in both design and operation. Things come and go; it is a giant recycling system. Death and birth, extinction and new species, here today and gone tomorrow are two sides of the same coin. Yet, nothing is lost because everything has its base in nonphysical Source Energy Awareness, Consciousness – God if you will. We delight in the variety and the game, as Consciousness; because we know there is no death. Just new actors, new props on a new stage of infinite variety of forms.

New Growth Lodge Pole Pines Yellowstone 1996

With each event creatures on earth, human, animal, vegetable and mineral send out rockets of desire for the very opposite of what they are experiencing in the physical moment. These rockets of desire are the expansion and evolution of Life. They are the eternalness of All That Is. This results in evolution on earth. We choose again for something we want that feels better. Perhaps with this event we move away from nuclear energy and get crackin’ on sound technology or wind? These contrasts spur us to a new direction, better, safer, cleaner, easier.Nothing is lost; we are perfectly contained in, based in, and indeed are Well Being Itself. Perhaps an event of this proportion assists us in realizing beyond our body/minds by assisting us to awakening to Who We Really Are – Source Energy all of it – all of us- in physical form having a physical adventure in the eternity.  Ask and it is answered; be still and receive the answer. The rebirth has already begun. All is well. This is Applied Spirituality.

silencing the human mind

Good Morning Everyone!

My human mind awoke this morning wanting to drag me into its “story”. What story? My son deploys today, that story. Yammering on, I could feel myself getting dragged down into its negative thoughts. Whoa! It occurred to me that I had several choices here. I could continue letting my human mind drag me from pillar to post feeling worse by the second; I could stop it; I could watch it; I could welcome it; I could release it. I didn’t have to suffer. I had choices.

Well, whatever I chose, it wasn’t going to be feeling bad to worse. I began breathing in to the count of 3 and out to the count of 5 getting a good rhythmic rolling breath going, focusing on my breathe. Poor human mind can only focus on one thing at a time; and I was not about to be the victim to the “tail” wagging the “dog”.  Then I decided to “welcome in” these worrisome thoughts, continuing my rhythmic breathing.

“Welcome worry, welcome fear, welcome sadness, welcome longing to be there. Come in for you are welcome here.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Welcome the belief that I need to change, alter, amend, conceal, edit or diminish you in anyway. Welcome.”

“Welcome the notion that these feelings and thoughts are personal to me. Welcome the idea that I alone, little me, i am alone in this feeling; it is mine. Welcome. Welcome.” Breathing. Breathing.

“So, could you let this go?” I asked myself. Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“So, would you be willing to let this go?” Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“When might this be?”

“Now.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Now could you welcome in the IMPERSONAL nature of these thoughts and ideas?” Breathing. Breathing.

“Yes.”

“And what is present right here, right now? Is there a separate you that is suffering from these thoughts?”

Breathing. Breathing. “No.”

“So then, what is present right here, right now?”

“Only Awareness. Life. Well Being. Awareness is breathing me. Life is.” Breathing. Breathing.

“How does that feel now?”

“Spacious. Limitless. Oneness. Well. All is Well.”

conscious parenting

Hello Everyone!

There are as many ideas of good parenting out there as there are individuals. Just ask anyone and a rousing if not noisy discussion will ensue with everyone defending their view point from the human mind. Recently quite a polarizing discussion ensued with Amy Chua’s book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. The book is not a user’s manual, but rather a personal reflection of her journey on her parenting style from which she learns and grows in Love. This is conscious parenting which results in the evolution and expansion of you, the parent. What this means is that as things come up you, the parent, have to grow yourself through the course of parenting. Children, because we love them so much, cause us to self reflect, reconsider, change and grow.  Nothing else in the world can make us do this quite like our children can and do.

We want so much to be good parents; however, there’s no manual and it seems almost anyyone can do it. There’s very little barrier to entry! This is the field of Love. It gets muddy, however, when we bring to bear our human mind stuff onto the field. Our parents did it this way; or I hated that my parents did it that way; or I’m not enough, deserving or up to the job. These are the stories of human mind (ego) that will come up for OUR clearing throughout the course of parenting our children.

Bottomline: these children are NOT our property, nor are they made in our image. They are individual, unique chips off the old Block, Source Energy.  They come complete with their own Internal Guidance System. Their agenda is not our agenda. Our job, if we are consciously parenting, is to keep reconnecting them with their own Internal Guidance so that they feel safe and good in their own hands. During childhood we can offer them a wide berth to practice listening within and then feeling the outcome of their individual choices. Then, once they’re “out in the world”, it will be their natural habit to “check within” first to see how anything feels to them before they act. This builds not only self esteem but self reliance, independent thinkers and adults who are Connected with Self.

I thought you might enjoy listening to Amy Chou being interviewed. It doesn’t matter that she’s Chinese; substitute any other descriptor you like here. Everyone is called to grow and expand in Love: and nothing does it better than our children.

spirituality and business: no oxymoron

Good Day Everyone!

Connected with Source Energy

Recently someone asked me to put together a talk for a corporation without using the word spirituality. I was told that was the last word they wanted to hear. Yikes! Just goes to show you how people fear what they don’t know or understand. So I decided to address this in my blog.

Fact: There’s no such thing as a non-spiritual business or organization. Period.

We are all Spiritual beings; humans and every physical form (manifestation) have their roots in nonphysical energy (thought) first. Nothing gets to the planet without being a thought form, first. So, banking or widgets, government or religious group, they are all Spiritual organizations…Yes, even hospitals and the military. Everything. Everyone.

To not recognize that or understand that completely is missing the boat. Every group is a spiritual group. We can create anything we want on earth: absolutely anything. I think some of the misperceptions come into play when you think that a spiritual group is going to look like something other than what you expect. They’re going to be off meditating before the board meeting or kneeling in prayer before battle. Not.

The big misconception is that spirituality=good. Earth is a free will zone. Everything gets to be here. That’s pretty obvious, don’t you agree? So this begs the question, what’s the point? Or what’s the different? Or what exactly are we looking to experience?

MORE Quality. Good. Joy. Humor. Fun. Collaboration. Willingness. Expansion. Exuberance. Innovation. Inspiration. Fullness. Satisfaction. Solutions. Exhilaration…LIFE!

Source Energy, which we all already ARE at our core, is the highest, purest, fastest frequencies. We feel this Quality in every moment: either a lot of it or none of it or every shade (emotion) in between. Just because you’re at work doesn’t mean you’ve left your Internal Guidance System at home. Just because you’re singing in the choir at church doesn’t mean you’re allowing Source Energy to flow through you and you’re feelin’ the Love.

Spirituality Defined:

Spirituality is the measure of someone’s personal, most intimate relationship with Self. It has nothing to do with church or religion nor is it left behind because you don a three piece suit or a military uniform. Your Self is always with you. The question is are you aligned with Self (Source) or not, how much Light are you allowing to flow through your unit right NOW? That is spirituality. How connected are you in any given moment to Source, which is YOU.

The spiritual business already is. The question now is: How much Source Energy is allowed in? The degree to which each individual within the business/organization brings Self to the table, is the degree that prosperity, abundance, creativity, joy, humor, innovation, inspiration, genius is created and experienced in the entity’s services, products, communications, etc. The greater the flow of Source Energy into anything, the more Good is manifested in the final product. Above all, it is the experience of feeling It as Good and Enlivening.

At the core of every successful business if Love. Listen to an excerpt from the online self study course to the book, Well Done – A Story of Applied Spirituality™.

egypt: the joy of freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

A Spiritual Revolution Manifesting in the Physical Experience

I was so overjoyed listening this this woman from Egypt in her joy that I had to share it. I was ruminating about how quickly and peacefully the Egyptian revolution happened as opposed to the American Revolution. Dr. King is smiling. But it’s right and good; it is natural as the nature of Spirit within everyone is freedom, growth and joy…reaching to realize in the physical world that which they already ARE. It’s like the daisy that pushes itself up through the asphalt; Life insists; Existence Is; and nothing can stop it.

However, President Mubarek was part and parcel of this coming about. He provided the “contrast” from which the Egyptian people chose a new route. In essence they have him to thank for making this revolution possible, as it inspired within the new desire for freedom in a powerful way.

Watch and listen to the jubilation in this woman’s voice.

I have no idea what the words are to this song, but I do feel the Energy of Life.

And so it goes, the desire for more; the answering; and the alignment with it. This is the evolution of mankind; the expansion of the Universe in its eternal dance. This is Applied Spirituality.

children: what they teach us

Good Morning Everyone!

Children are our teachers if we’re disposed to pay attention and stop trying to turn them into us. They are clear transparencies of Life Force, allowing It to flow through them unedited and unobstructed. That’s why they’re so joyful and innocent, they don’t have a bunch of junk in their human minds bending or distorting Life Force.

Watch and get a glimpse of where we need to go as adults: lose the human mind and regain our Divine Mind of joy. This is the natural process of Applied Spirituality

And here’s a grown up that gets it

You have your assignment: go forth, be silly, express the Joy that you are.

Good Day Everyone,

Bringing our Best Self to the worldPresident Obama was interviewed by Bill O’Reilly during Super Bowl XLV. About 9 minutes into the interview, the President confides that the worst part about his job is being “in the bubble”. He feels he cannot have spontaneous conversations with others and he has become much more guarded. O’Reilly says his close friends report he is much more guarded.

What would it look like if the President just continued to be Who He Really Is..funny, smart, spontaneous and more free in his job? In so doing he would  bring his best of Self to the world. Everything goes better with humor, even the Presidency. What would it look like if we were each less concerned with what others thought about us, and more concerned with how we feel within our selves? What would it look like if each of our primary concern was how Good we felt? Feeling Good, of course, is the measure of how aligned one is with Self…Source – Well Being. That is what Shakespeare was referring to when he wrote,

"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
Polonius to his son, Laertes in Hamlet

This is applied spirituality. When we are true to Self, we feel Good. Our human mind is in alignment with Source
(Well Being); then and only then are we a gift to the world. Try it for a day. Feel Good
within, first; then go out into the world and offer yourself. Waters will part; tides will
shift and influence will be felt...easily.

Here's the video of the interview.

leadership hallmark: thinking for yourself

Good Day Everyone!

I ran across an item on the internet this morning that tells of a website that proposes the existence of a tree octopus.

Dr. Donald J Leu of the New Literacies Research Lab at the University of Connecticut has pointed to this site as evidence that our children are not being taught the critical thinking they need to discern fact from fiction in this world. Truth be told, our children are not being taught to be leaders, but to be one of the pack receiving praise for following the rules, standing in line quietly, and regurgitating facts. In short they are taught that being a follower wins praise and that standing out from the herd merits censure.

Leadership, however, is the ability to think for yourself and follow your own Internal Guidance on any subject in any circumstance. People encouraged at a young age to follow their individualistic thinking and weigh how it feels to them are the ones who develop new companies, find solutions to the gordian knot, and develop innovative ideas that propel society forward. Thinking for oneself is the hallmark of leadership.

When individuals are allowed and encouraged to express a new and original thought and then meet up with praise for having the courage to do so, they don’t end up acting out in negative ways later on. All those little bright and shining faces in our schools are future leaders if seen through new eyes. They are not our clay to mold; they are unique individual light beings ready willing and able to bring Light into the world. Sometimes it’s exuberant and noisy, but always exciting.

the nature of spirit/life: freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

Liberation Square, Cairo February 1, 2011 photo courtesy AP

Suddenly the urge for freedom is erupting across the Arab world: Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and now Jordan. Like a daisy sprouting up from the cracks in the asphalt, Life insists on Life. The urge to be free cannot be denied within the human despite race, religion, or location. Everyone has the same Godchip hard-wired within whose nature is freedom, growth and joy. We are seeing the expression of Self across the globe – the huddled masses yearning to be free – no longer huddling but standing up, stretching and reaching for their inherent freedom on earth.

Just as America reached for her freedom from England back in 1776, these scenes reflect the very same urge within every human to throw off oppression and freely pursue life, liberty and happiness.

All the religious strictures, governmental restraints or human laws of any type cannot keep this phenomenon of Life from happening. We all come in with this knowing: we are free; and we seek to bring into alignment that which we are by Nature into manifestation in our physical lives. We witness people from all walks of life reaching for Quality – the realization of Source in our everyday experience. This is Applied Spirituality in action. It’s Natural.
