internet radio and freedom

Greetings Everyone,

If ever there were a technology that supported the concept of “we the people” and freedom, it is internet radio, which is my attraction to it. As you know, my radio show – A New View of Life – is moving to VoiceAmerica Variety Channel internet radio on January 10, 2012 at 6 PM EST . With my announcement on Facebook, Twitter, my Facebook Fan Page and to other groups, I am being asked, “What is internet radio? How do I listen to internet radio?”

This is the beauty of the internet and the new devices – ipad and other tablet devices, smart phones as well as the ‘traditional’ pc’s, macs, and laptops. Internet radio is streamed live over the internet which is global. Is this technology not amazing? And for those of you who would like a peek into the future – streaming television is coming (actually it is here already).

One really great aspect of internet radio is that it can and does combine the concept of ‘podcasting’ with live streaming which means the episodes or shows are recorded and archived (saved) and uploaded to itunes. Listeners are able to go to the archives of the show anytime and listen to past shows over and over again as well as have the ability to download the show to a phone, pc, or mp3 player and play the show whenever you choose (like jogging or in the car).

For advertisers this is an amazing boon. Revenues spent on sponsorship of an internet radio show are played to the consumer every time the show is heard from the first live stream and also on every subsequent playback unlike terrestrial radio where the advertisement is heard on the show and then gone forever.
The internet has leveled the playing field with the ability to disseminate information without having to go to the “few” stations. To listen, you simply boot up the computer or ipad or smart phone at the designated time slot for the show and listen live. It’s really cool. And of course since it is live, it is interactive. You can call in just like you would any terrestrial station and participate in the discussion.

My personal favorite of internet radio is the global reach. Currently Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s creator, is vacationing in communist Vietnam to soften the ground for Facebook being allowed there. Unlike broadcasting in a local area in a particular geographical zone, internet radio is available wherever there is an internet connection or cell tower with bandwith to access the internet on your smart phone. Information is disseminated freely and without censorship, interpretation or dilution which is truly empowering. This gives people everywhere the ability to listen and weigh up information for themselves and to learn, grow and expand unlike traditional media. We are truly becoming a global community.

VoiceAmerica has nearly 3 million unique listeners every month and is growing by leaps and bounds. They have been the pioneers in this new field for 10 years holding a vision for the rest of us of information rich programming across all disciplines and fields of interest available to everyone who can access the internet. See why I love the local library and the public pc’s?

Freedom of information is the most powerful gift of all the current technology. Wise people will take advantage of it, appreciate it and promote it for the Good of All of Us. It’s the best thing that’s happened since fire, the wheel and blogging.

Kath

egypt: the joy of freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

A Spiritual Revolution Manifesting in the Physical Experience

I was so overjoyed listening this this woman from Egypt in her joy that I had to share it. I was ruminating about how quickly and peacefully the Egyptian revolution happened as opposed to the American Revolution. Dr. King is smiling. But it’s right and good; it is natural as the nature of Spirit within everyone is freedom, growth and joy…reaching to realize in the physical world that which they already ARE. It’s like the daisy that pushes itself up through the asphalt; Life insists; Existence Is; and nothing can stop it.

However, President Mubarek was part and parcel of this coming about. He provided the “contrast” from which the Egyptian people chose a new route. In essence they have him to thank for making this revolution possible, as it inspired within the new desire for freedom in a powerful way.

Watch and listen to the jubilation in this woman’s voice.

I have no idea what the words are to this song, but I do feel the Energy of Life.

And so it goes, the desire for more; the answering; and the alignment with it. This is the evolution of mankind; the expansion of the Universe in its eternal dance. This is Applied Spirituality.

Good Day Everyone,

Bringing our Best Self to the worldPresident Obama was interviewed by Bill O’Reilly during Super Bowl XLV. About 9 minutes into the interview, the President confides that the worst part about his job is being “in the bubble”. He feels he cannot have spontaneous conversations with others and he has become much more guarded. O’Reilly says his close friends report he is much more guarded.

What would it look like if the President just continued to be Who He Really Is..funny, smart, spontaneous and more free in his job? In so doing he would  bring his best of Self to the world. Everything goes better with humor, even the Presidency. What would it look like if we were each less concerned with what others thought about us, and more concerned with how we feel within our selves? What would it look like if each of our primary concern was how Good we felt? Feeling Good, of course, is the measure of how aligned one is with Self…Source – Well Being. That is what Shakespeare was referring to when he wrote,

"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
Polonius to his son, Laertes in Hamlet

This is applied spirituality. When we are true to Self, we feel Good. Our human mind is in alignment with Source
(Well Being); then and only then are we a gift to the world. Try it for a day. Feel Good
within, first; then go out into the world and offer yourself. Waters will part; tides will
shift and influence will be felt...easily.

Here's the video of the interview.

the nature of spirit/life: freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

Liberation Square, Cairo February 1, 2011 photo courtesy AP

Suddenly the urge for freedom is erupting across the Arab world: Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and now Jordan. Like a daisy sprouting up from the cracks in the asphalt, Life insists on Life. The urge to be free cannot be denied within the human despite race, religion, or location. Everyone has the same Godchip hard-wired within whose nature is freedom, growth and joy. We are seeing the expression of Self across the globe – the huddled masses yearning to be free – no longer huddling but standing up, stretching and reaching for their inherent freedom on earth.

Just as America reached for her freedom from England back in 1776, these scenes reflect the very same urge within every human to throw off oppression and freely pursue life, liberty and happiness.

All the religious strictures, governmental restraints or human laws of any type cannot keep this phenomenon of Life from happening. We all come in with this knowing: we are free; and we seek to bring into alignment that which we are by Nature into manifestation in our physical lives. We witness people from all walks of life reaching for Quality – the realization of Source in our everyday experience. This is Applied Spirituality in action. It’s Natural.

examine the premise: whose truth is it

Good Day Everyone!

Whose Truth? Ego Mind or Divine Mind

Every day in the world we are bombarded with some one’s version of the truth. This one says this, that one says that. People go to war over the human mind version of the truth. There’s not enough; you’re doomed to this illness; my way is right and yours in wrong. This is the content of human mind…the sense of separation. This is the great illusion under which we all labor – that I am separate from you, alone on the planet and that whatever happens to me is personal. The great lie that began with the first telling of the story of Adam and Eve and their adventure in the Garden of Eden. Suddenly they were aware of “something other than paradise – oneness”.

In order to reclaim Paradise, our realization of Oneness, the human mind which is infinitely clever with its smoke and mirrors, has to be stilled. Or we must focus our attention on what IS PRESENT. Do you really notice a you that is feeling angry? Or are you the Awareness that notices anger come and go? We keep looking at the waves, when we are the ocean.

One way to disconnect from group human think is to examine the premise. Whose premise is it? What is it? How far back in human history does it go? Does it even feel correct? Thinking for yourself is a worthy endeavor which gives rise to inspired thought and ah-ha’s. The human mind is a tool that is meant for us to use in navigating this physical world. The human mind is to execute the desires of the heart, not the other way round which is what the human mind does. We force our heart to be still and execute the false premises of human mind.

Here’s an excerpt from the Earthling’s Quick Start Guide: Master Operating Your Unit on Earth (A Short Refresher Course in Applied Spirituality). Think about it.

what you can do for your country

Hello Everyone,

It’s 50 years since JFK delivered his first inaugural address on a cold, bright winter’s day in Washington, DC. Some of us may remember it; some of you may not. Perhaps you were not even born yet. It’s a speech worth hearing, because unlike some who would say that JFK’s was a presidency interrupted and therefore, lost; he laid the ground work for what we are endeavoring to carry forward today. On that winter’s day he planted the seeds in not just our American consciousness, but all of mankind’s consciousness for a world where we would realize – make REAL – certain ideals. He illuminated the idea the God’s work was actually our work. That we are the creators of our Reality. ..all of it.

He told us we would go to the moon in 10 years when we did not have the technology to do so; and we did it in 9. He laid the ground work along with Bobby and Martin for human rights. Today we are seeing the last remaining vestiges of bias falling by the wayside one by one. He knew we were Source Energy having this physical life. He kept us focused on the infinite possibilities. He said the work may not be done in our life times, but we must start – and we did. Now we must carry on the Good work.

What you can do is expand your own consciousness. Focus yourself on the infinite possibilities, removing your eyes from the distasteful, the degenerate, the quarrelsome, the bad and instead, insist your eyes stay fixed on where we desire to go, not where we have been.

We can build on the Light; or we can build on the darkness. The free will choice is in each of our minds. Take control of your own internal focus, choose the Light and don’t look back. That’s what you can  do for your country. Here’s JFK’s speech. Let it inspire you to your best Self, which of course, is God.

land of the free; home of the brave

Hello Everyone,

How many times have I heard the Star Spangled Banner? A zillion?

According to Wikipedia, “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from “Defence of Fort McHenry”, a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.

Last evening I was watching a movie where a group of people were becoming naturalized citizens; and then someone sang the National Anthem. As I listened, the last line sent a ripple through me – always a sure signal for me to pay attention, as this is for me to hear in a new way and apply to my real life.

The line, of course is the last line of the first stanza: “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

I, of course, listen and see through the lens of consciousness rather than literally, but this time I thought this:

We are indeed so free that we can choose to live in a prison of our minds believing ourselves to be limited. We can choose to believe in the human mind voices within that tell us to be afraid of this, that and the other. But it takes the brave to choose freedom in your own mind. It takes being brave to choose your freedom and live life full out. It takes a brave Soul to look at “what is” in life and choose something more loving, more expansive and inclusive. It takes a brave heart to break through the prison of fear in the mind and be free. I decided to choose my freedom and be brave.

I thought that this line was speaking to me. Does it speak to you?

Choose your freedom, America! It’s every bit your choice within your own mind.

hemp & marijuana: isn’t it time, yet?

Hello Everyone!

The subject of today’s blog was inspired by a clip that I noticed on the Auto Insight Online Community today.

Did I know that in 1941 the Ford motor company produced an experimental automobile with a plastic body composed of 70% cellulose fibers from hemp. No, I did not know that; so I set about doing a little Google research. Watch this:

How much different would the world look today if we had followed the vision that Henry Ford set forth rather than changing course in fear. What fear you ask? The hysterical and irrational fear of cannabis.

It has always been a wonderment to me that alcohol is legal and cannabis is not. Just in observation in the course of my own life, I’ve never seen a group of people high on cannabis starting a war or getting into a fight. Yet, the effects alcohol has on the human body and psyche are well documented, and most of them not pretty. As to the argument that marijuana is the “gateway” drug. Posh. Everything is a choice. If that’s the argument, then root beer is the gateway to beer which is the gateway to the “hard stuff”. Every body gets to choose how far they go with anything in life. These decisions are personal; not the domain of government or others.

Prohibitions on cannabis began as early as 1906 but found substantive traction in the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 which required growers to register so as to pay the tax. Oddly, during WWII, the US Government encouraged farmers to grow hemp for the war effort.

In 2005 Ron Paul introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act which was referred to committee, where it still languishes. Hemp, marijuana, cannabis – by whatever name – is one of Nature’s gifts to man. Such a useful and amazing crop would mean so much in the area of sustainability. Where so much by-product of a toxic nature is attributed to steel and plastics, what would using hemp mean if engineers and scientists found ways to utilize this crop to produce automobile bodies and homes? What would this mean to the farmer in North Dakota?

What would legalization of marijuana mean in terms of revitalizing the fabric and garment industry here in America? What would it look like if you could go to an herb shop and buy a few ounces of legal marijuana to bake into some cookies for a party or smoke if you so chose to do? Would the world come to an end? Probably not. Would fewer people drink alcohol? Who knows. Are people going to go hog wild and be doped out at work? No more so than those who go to work drunk or have a beer at lunch. These are personal issues of self and spiritual development.

An initiative to legalize marijuana will most likely be on the ballot in California’s November election. As with most things, this is finally being made possible because of the economics of the times. The cost to prosecute offenders outweighs the benefits; and California is strapped financially, looking for new sources of growth for the economy, just like North Dakota.

Fears are always irrational; but it is always fear that keeps us from the realization of our Good. We are being asked to grow in our spiritual development from children to adults. We are being asked to release our fears and move into Oneness with Source. Here is where we can release one more fear and find many blessings, not the least of which is communion with God enjoying with gratitude the bounty of this precious and amazing herb. This is only Common Sense.

Thank for reading!

Kath

All arguments aside, the bottom line through the lens of Applied Spirituality is that this is a natural substance like any other herb that is part and parcel of our Natural world. It is up to the individual to choose what things they will participate in, pay attention to, use, or reject as a matter of personal choice like hot dogs over hamburgers. No more; no less. What is available now is the opportunity to drop the fear over something and move on to enjoy the many benefits and blessings that this blessed seed will impart to all of us looking for new and better ways to honor the planet. We can start by giving thanks for hemp.

Good Day Everyone,

I just finished listening to President Obama’s first State of the Union. If you missed it, please click on the link so graciously provided by CSPAN and the Philadelphia Examiner.

I am always impressed with Obama’s equanimity. Unlike most of us he doesn’t use sarcasm, cynicism, barbs or innuendo. He speaks plainly, which can only come from a deep place of center and connectedness. I also like the way he is not against anything, but rather is for this or that – focusing on what is desired and refusing to spend any Energy in the past. For example, he’s not interested in punishing banks, but is interested in safeguarding our financial future. He’s a wise man to keep us focused forward on where we want to be, not where we have been.

With all the plans to move forward, however, it always comes down to how we can get along with one another. I wonder when we will value being happy over being right. I wonder when we will value each other over being right.

Recently I finished an amazing book, The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. Often I believe we can learn more about ourselves from fiction. In this book a young man is severely burnt and so begins the odyssey of his recovery both spiritual and physical. Throughout the journey he is plagued by a serpent’s voice that hisses to him frailties, his weaknesses. It is the voice of his ego telling him what to fear incessantly, keeping him small and unavailable for love and a beautiful life.

At times throughout the President’s speech, whole sections of his audience would not applaud, nor would they stand. I wonder about that ego serpent’s voice hissing fear into the minds of these people who would not be moved by love of Country, nor a larger purpose, nor even the Spirit of Love to realize that ego divides and does not admit heart, God, into the political scene; and this is what holds us back.

I wondered how one shifts such a thing; and the answer came readily to me – by Love, itself.

I am heartened that the President has called for changes that will support small business and entrepreneurs. This is where each of us refuses to be daunted by our own serpent’s voices, but dares to create and innovate within our own lives. This is how we can begin growing this economy, our new America, from the ground up.

Spirituality is allowing that Spirit of God, yourSelf, to move you past your serpent’s voice of fear and dare to become your biggest Self. This requires you, John and Jane Doe, to move past what ever limits you – the lies your serpent’s voice streams out – and move into your Godmind of Infinite Possibility, Value for Self, and create a new life for yourself.

This is self development, spiritual growth, self improvement – call it what you will. It is the call for you to leave behind the limiting voice of ego and live in the Still Small Voice of Source Energy and follow your heart. In this way we create a New America.

I have written two books with online courses to help you find yourSelf and begin new. I am offering a teleclass to help you begin anew. Whatever you do, pick up your bed and walk. The Spirit is alive in you, follow It.

Good Day Everyone,

Recently there is media evidence that Love includes everyone is reaching the global political frontier. This is Good News, indeed.

First up is Cuba. Since Fidel Castro stepped aside turning control over to his brother, Raul Castro has stated that he’s ready to discuss human rights, freedom of the press, political prisoners — everything. This is in response to President Obama saying, “The United States seeks a new beginning with Cuba.” Bravo! It is so overdue.

North and South Korea are talking again.

Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez has asked that diplomatic relations be restored between the US and Venezuela as a result of the Western Hemisphere Summit this past week in Port of Spain, Trinidad where 34 nations sat together to communicate. The Free Flowing of Source Energy is beautiful thing.

Even Iran is trying to have a new relationship with the US. Yesterday, President of Iran, Ahmadinejad instructed chief Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi to personally ensure that “suspects be given all their rights to defend themselves” against the charges. “Prepare for the court proceedings … to observe and apply justice precisely,” the IRNA state news agency quoted the president as saying. Ahmadinejad gave the clearest signal yet that Iran too was ready for a new relationship with the U.S.

Little by little we are talking to each other, once again. We are all in the family of man, we are all within God, we are all One.

It heartens me that we have a President that is leading this effort because he understands that Love includes, rather than excludes. These things will take time, of course, as people on all sides are reluctant to release fear, doubt and mistrust.

However, it is a beginning of a New Energy Flow in a New direction. The impossible is possible, we can live together in peace.

Thanks for reading!
