silencing the human mind

Good Morning Everyone!

My human mind awoke this morning wanting to drag me into its “story”. What story? My son deploys today, that story. Yammering on, I could feel myself getting dragged down into its negative thoughts. Whoa! It occurred to me that I had several choices here. I could continue letting my human mind drag me from pillar to post feeling worse by the second; I could stop it; I could watch it; I could welcome it; I could release it. I didn’t have to suffer. I had choices.

Well, whatever I chose, it wasn’t going to be feeling bad to worse. I began breathing in to the count of 3 and out to the count of 5 getting a good rhythmic rolling breath going, focusing on my breathe. Poor human mind can only focus on one thing at a time; and I was not about to be the victim to the “tail” wagging the “dog”.  Then I decided to “welcome in” these worrisome thoughts, continuing my rhythmic breathing.

“Welcome worry, welcome fear, welcome sadness, welcome longing to be there. Come in for you are welcome here.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Welcome the belief that I need to change, alter, amend, conceal, edit or diminish you in anyway. Welcome.”

“Welcome the notion that these feelings and thoughts are personal to me. Welcome the idea that I alone, little me, i am alone in this feeling; it is mine. Welcome. Welcome.” Breathing. Breathing.

“So, could you let this go?” I asked myself. Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“So, would you be willing to let this go?” Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“When might this be?”

“Now.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Now could you welcome in the IMPERSONAL nature of these thoughts and ideas?” Breathing. Breathing.

“Yes.”

“And what is present right here, right now? Is there a separate you that is suffering from these thoughts?”

Breathing. Breathing. “No.”

“So then, what is present right here, right now?”

“Only Awareness. Life. Well Being. Awareness is breathing me. Life is.” Breathing. Breathing.

“How does that feel now?”

“Spacious. Limitless. Oneness. Well. All is Well.”

valentine’s day is everyday

Happy Valentine’s Day to You!

Chelsea Garden, Solana Beach, CA

It was Valentine’s Day 1984. My Restaurant, Chelsea Garden, had just been reviewed by the local rag, The Reader, with rave reviews from Eleanor Widmer who regularly closed a restaurant a week with her acerbic comments. The Review came just in the nick of time. Having been open since December, we were only doing single digit dinners each night. Suddenly, we were famous on Valentine’s Day.

I was out running around trying to prepare for an onslaught of customers. When I returned, my Manager told me that someone had been by to meet me. I couldn’t imagine who or why. She said he wanted to meet the person who had finally won a great review from the Wicked Witch. He was a local restauranteur and club owner who invited us to come be his guests that evening after we closed. I passed it off turning my focus back to the business at hand. We were going to be very busy that evening; and, thank God, we were saved.

That evening after we closed, Manager and I went over to the Restauranteur’s Club as invited. It was very late, perhaps 12:30 am. There was a line at the door to get it. Standing there with a grin from ear to ear was a man whom I’d never seen before. As I approached, he asked me, “Can I help you?” I nodded, “I’m looking for Woody.” He grinned back saying, “You just found him.” In that nanosecond I felt as though I had already met him. I knew him, but of course, I didn’t. We stood staring at each other in the space of infinity both of us trying to fathom this irrefutable Connection. I looked at his face, seeing it for the first time; feeling his Spirit, I knew I’d known him for Eternity.

It was a love affair that has lasted for lifetimes. Woody passed away in 1997; but since then I’ve learned the absolute Eternality of Love. Love never dies and neither do we. At the time of Woody’s physical death, I was dismayed. Why did something so wonderful need to end? Yet over the years I have come to know that in Truth, Love never dies. It is a living breathing Entity that is Eternal leaving you free to Love over and over and over because you are so full. It is the unconditional Wind Beneath My Wings.

I wish this experience for everyone. Valentine’s Day is everyday.

egypt: the joy of freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

A Spiritual Revolution Manifesting in the Physical Experience

I was so overjoyed listening this this woman from Egypt in her joy that I had to share it. I was ruminating about how quickly and peacefully the Egyptian revolution happened as opposed to the American Revolution. Dr. King is smiling. But it’s right and good; it is natural as the nature of Spirit within everyone is freedom, growth and joy…reaching to realize in the physical world that which they already ARE. It’s like the daisy that pushes itself up through the asphalt; Life insists; Existence Is; and nothing can stop it.

However, President Mubarek was part and parcel of this coming about. He provided the “contrast” from which the Egyptian people chose a new route. In essence they have him to thank for making this revolution possible, as it inspired within the new desire for freedom in a powerful way.

Watch and listen to the jubilation in this woman’s voice.

I have no idea what the words are to this song, but I do feel the Energy of Life.

And so it goes, the desire for more; the answering; and the alignment with it. This is the evolution of mankind; the expansion of the Universe in its eternal dance. This is Applied Spirituality.

children: what they teach us

Good Morning Everyone!

Children are our teachers if we’re disposed to pay attention and stop trying to turn them into us. They are clear transparencies of Life Force, allowing It to flow through them unedited and unobstructed. That’s why they’re so joyful and innocent, they don’t have a bunch of junk in their human minds bending or distorting Life Force.

Watch and get a glimpse of where we need to go as adults: lose the human mind and regain our Divine Mind of joy. This is the natural process of Applied Spirituality

And here’s a grown up that gets it

You have your assignment: go forth, be silly, express the Joy that you are.

Good Morning Everyone!

We are told to “Love yourself!” I know when I first heard this I was kind of confused. Didn’t everyone just automatically love oneself? Evidently not. Seems we carry the baggage of others’ opinions around…often unknowingly. The only way we know this is when the confidence that is required to do something just isn’t there. Being “shy” is one manifestation. Other examples might be someone who is overly boastful using a false bravado to compensate for a lack of confidence. And there’s more, of course. You don’t want to get into your bathing suit and play at the beach; or you won’t stand up for yourself when required; or there’s a voice in the back of your mind constantly saying, “you’re not enough…smart enough, pretty enough, educated enough, rich enough, etc.

When we don’t appreciate who we are, value our worth or appreciate our uniqueness, the tragedy is a life unfulfilled and a world that goes without our unique gifts and talents, because we don’t have the ability to bring them to the world. We live small. We hide. We never seem to get what we want.

Having the requisite love and appreciation for oneself results in a fulfilled life. We don’t “take” from others, we stand in who we are radiating our beautiful Self out to the world, and by Law of Attraction we are matched with the lovely things we deserve. It’s not aggression; it’s magnetism like a Light House standing firm and steady on the shore so that all the boats can easily and clearly find it. The ability to shine clearly is self esteem.

We are so much more than we think we are! At the core, we are Source Energy having a physical experience. In human terms we are gorgeous just as we are, despite what your human mind has to say on the subject. Each of us is a chip off the same Old Block, and have the same core of Source Energy, Well Being.

This is the time in the course of human history when we are awakening to Who We Really Are. Isn’t it time you stopped resisting and let go of the false ideas your human mind would have you believe about you? What’s stopping you? Do you think the process has to be painful or scary? It doesn’t. Do you think this is going to take a long time and divert you from your “real life”. It doesn’t have to. Do you feel lost and don’t know where to begin? Well, start here. It’s a fun journey and when guided by someone who’s been there, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. It’s a natural process of … letting go.

Join us in a workshop this evening, February 9, 2011 and then a 4 week seminar in Falling in Love with Yourself: You are Enough. You can only benefit, there is absolutely no downside to this; and the benefits are infinite.

building a new life

Hello Everyone,

You are way more than meets the eye

So you find yourself at a crossroad, do you? Time to do something else? What you’ve been doing isn’t working any longer for you? It’s not fulfilling or it’s just vaporized? Lucky you! You get to recreate your life any way you choose, if you’ll let go of what was, look forward, dream, and feeling your way into something that you love.

Endings are only beginnings, because everything you’ve ever done before has brought you to this new NOW moment of choosing again. You have to let go of preconceived ideas, outmoded beliefs and limiting concepts. Dream big. It’s not about the money, although when you’re happy doing what you do, the money naturally follows. Find that thing that blows your skirt up, knocks your socks off and go for it. Inch by inch, anything’s a cinch so my friend says. And she’s right. This life is about taking a mere thought and bringing it into physical reality: the internet, electricity, a new business idea that serves the planet. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s impossible; for there is nothing that you cannot be, do or have. You are Creator here on Earth and your imagination is where you begin molding the Energy into physical forms. Earth is your playground, dear Creator. Go play. This is Applied Spirituality: focusing your Source Energy in creating something new.

Here’s an excerpt from the online self study course to Well Done – A Story of Applied Spirituality which walks you through your next adventure step by step. If I could do it, so too, can you!

leadership hallmark: thinking for yourself

Good Day Everyone!

I ran across an item on the internet this morning that tells of a website that proposes the existence of a tree octopus.

Dr. Donald J Leu of the New Literacies Research Lab at the University of Connecticut has pointed to this site as evidence that our children are not being taught the critical thinking they need to discern fact from fiction in this world. Truth be told, our children are not being taught to be leaders, but to be one of the pack receiving praise for following the rules, standing in line quietly, and regurgitating facts. In short they are taught that being a follower wins praise and that standing out from the herd merits censure.

Leadership, however, is the ability to think for yourself and follow your own Internal Guidance on any subject in any circumstance. People encouraged at a young age to follow their individualistic thinking and weigh how it feels to them are the ones who develop new companies, find solutions to the gordian knot, and develop innovative ideas that propel society forward. Thinking for oneself is the hallmark of leadership.

When individuals are allowed and encouraged to express a new and original thought and then meet up with praise for having the courage to do so, they don’t end up acting out in negative ways later on. All those little bright and shining faces in our schools are future leaders if seen through new eyes. They are not our clay to mold; they are unique individual light beings ready willing and able to bring Light into the world. Sometimes it’s exuberant and noisy, but always exciting.

the nature of spirit/life: freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

Liberation Square, Cairo February 1, 2011 photo courtesy AP

Suddenly the urge for freedom is erupting across the Arab world: Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and now Jordan. Like a daisy sprouting up from the cracks in the asphalt, Life insists on Life. The urge to be free cannot be denied within the human despite race, religion, or location. Everyone has the same Godchip hard-wired within whose nature is freedom, growth and joy. We are seeing the expression of Self across the globe – the huddled masses yearning to be free – no longer huddling but standing up, stretching and reaching for their inherent freedom on earth.

Just as America reached for her freedom from England back in 1776, these scenes reflect the very same urge within every human to throw off oppression and freely pursue life, liberty and happiness.

All the religious strictures, governmental restraints or human laws of any type cannot keep this phenomenon of Life from happening. We all come in with this knowing: we are free; and we seek to bring into alignment that which we are by Nature into manifestation in our physical lives. We witness people from all walks of life reaching for Quality – the realization of Source in our everyday experience. This is Applied Spirituality in action. It’s Natural.

essential Self: Conscious Awareness

Hello Everyone!

At the root of every personal dilemma is the belief that we are isolated, alone, ineffectual and small. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are, each of us, Well Being, Perfection, Conscious Awareness. The Life that breathes us, enlivens us and every living thing. We are immense, but have suffered from the false belief in our separation from Source.

Jesus said, “I and my Father are One.” This was his statement of his realization of Oneness. We are each the same; one with the I AM.

“I AM is the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

The I AM is the Sea of Conscious Awareness in which we live, breathe and ARE. Notice. Who breathes you? What knows how to turn your food into new cells? What keeps the planets in their orbits? What? The same Conscious Awareness that is us; that is Who We Really Are.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said it this way: Trust Thyself; It is the I AM.

Good Morning Everyone,

Breathing: the any time, any place, any where meditation technique

Another piece of scientific data that shows the positive benefits of quietening your mind. Mindfulness Meditation Training Changes Brain Structure in Eight Weeks, an article in Science Daily not just suggests but shows the benefits of quietening your mind. Seems it is true after all that to be more effective and efficient, never mind feeling good, we really do need to be still inside. Wouldn’t it be fun to realize after all the years of making fun of the spiritual types to find out they were on to something all along?

There’s an old story that I am reminded of that tells of two men in a wood chopping contest. At the start of the competition both men began with sharp axes. Throughout the day the men steadily worked at turning out their piles of chopped wood. One man refused to stop and rest; whilst the other stopped periodically to rest and sharpen his axe with much derision from the crowd. But at the end of the day, the man with the most chopped wood was the one who stopped to rest and sharpen his axe.

One really effective means of quietening the mind is breathing. Listen to an excerpt from the Earthling’s Quick Start Guide: Master Operating Your Unit on Earth (A Short Refresher Course in Applied Spirituality) online self study course. We’re natural creatures, fully contained Godkits with all the necessary parts to lead balanced, productive and happy lives. No batteries required.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

or you might want to listen to Forest Meditations by Rita Desnoyer Garcia. It seems pretty clear to me that we can’t afford NOT to quiet our minds.
