Good Morning Everyone!

Cultivate the Good Thoughts; Weed Out the Rest

I love gardening. I wish everyone would garden; it’s so therapeutic, illuminating and rewarding. I’m getting ready to plant seed trays in preparation for planting my garden outside around Memorial Day. All winter I’ve poured over seed catalogs drooling over the new varieties and wanting to experiment with new crops. Alas, I am a box gardener and have limited space. I have to choose the seeds I want for the space I have to grow. I’m an equal opportunity gardener; if a quality seed sprouts (and usually they do), I just can’t seem to toss it onto the compost heap; no, I have to give the little plant its chance. Not so, though, for thoughts. I have learned through gardening to pluck out the ones I don’t want to mature into manifestation.

Thoughts are like seeds. Whatever you nurture grows. So becoming a deliberate creator of your life experiences starts with cultivating the Quality thought seeds. You can sort through the thought catalog and choose the ones you want to harvest come the fall; or you can, by default, grow whatever the winds and birds carry to your mind like dandelions or mustard.

I started weeding as a child. My Dad handed me a long tool with a forked end together with an empty coffee can. My instructions were to pull the weed out by it’s roots. We didn’t use chemicals. Since then weeding has become a favorite meditation; every thought I identify as a weed that I’m not willing to cultivate in my garden (mind), I pull it out (let it go), and then, of course, turn my focus to the ones I want to get bigger and thrive. To those I give my full attention.

As you choose your quality seeds, carefully consider what “crop” you are planting and nurturing. Even if you’re a container gardener like I am, gardening is a lovely reminder to weed out those erroneous thoughts and feed the good ones for a delicious harvest of lovely life adventures. This is Applied Spirituality.

Want to start your seeds? This will help you get started.

new dreams awakening, not yet emerging

Good Morning Everyone,

Magnolia Buds - not flowers yet

It is dawning another “false” spring day here in Ohio. There’s a blanket of snow on the ground, yet the first sight of daffodils poking through the ground can be witnessed. The trees have buds on them if one looks very closely. The elegance of the seasons moving forward in perfect order continues the eternality of Life. Our human minds want to rush forward and “do” – make things happen; but this is folly and wasted energy. It is not yet time.’

How many times in early March past have I put seeds in the ground, bought beautiful flowers and planted them only to loose them in the next snow? Countless. I learned there is an Elegant Timing with which I needed to align my human mind. After a few seasons I planted seeds in my seed trays and put them inside under a grow light so they would be seedlings by Memorial Day when it was time to put them into the ground for serious growing. So it is with new plans and dreams; they, too, have a natural timing as they, too, are funded by All That Is, Awareness, Life.

Learning to stay still and nurture these dreams even when the human mind is urging physical action is part and parcel of self mastery. This is aligning with Well Being. Knowing that all is Well, continuing to envision the new plans and dreams, dialing in and imagining every detail that we want to experience to perfection: that is what we “do” right now. The action will follow and we will know when it is time to act from the impulse and inspiration of Awareness. Then every action will be efficient and effective, rewarding and easy, elegant and effective.

Notice in the video the bears are awakening. The are not emerging…yet. Like the bear, you and I are natural creatures funded by Life. Allow Life to guide you to when, not the human mind. You’ll be astounded at the perfection and love, love, love the practical efficiency and effectiveness of All That Is.

Good Morning Everyone,

I woke up this morning at 4:30 to a winter wonderland. Of course this was a complete surprise to me, as I don’t have television and rarely check the weather online. I like the surprises, because I get to practice “this is perfect”. For example yesterday when it was raining, I found myself visiting hospitals and medical offices inviting local healthcare providers to my seminar next week. I had “planned” on more of the same today; but a Panhandle Hook, a winter storm, is bearing down on Cleveland as I write making rush hour a real challenge for everyone and the weather advisory in effect until late afternoon. So much for my “plan”. Now I get to see how this is Really perfect.

Which brings me to the real point: why is it that we insist on going and doing when the Natural Order of things is saying “stop”. It’s winter! Some days we can get around with care, some days we can travel easily, but days like today are obviously telling us to pause. Yet, I know, if I walk out to Hwy 18, I’ll see a parade of cars creeping towards the Interstate where there will be even more cars creeping to Cleveland.

We all have plans, yes, I know that. However, these are “pretend” plans. In the summer we make plans A and B. Plan A is for a clear sunny day, and plan B is in case it rains. Yet in winter there is some strange compulsion to resist the weather, dam the torpedos and go, go, go no matter what. I was at a Christmas party just before the holidays just after a big winter storm. For the first 30 minutes of conversation the folks were comparing stories of how long it took them to get to work. One reported 3 hours and still another told the winning the horror story competition reporting 7 hours. I sat listening to this wondering what conclusions they had drawn by having these experiences?

The trees are asleep; the bears are hibernating, the flower and insects slumber, the Earth rests…yet the human mind has another story going on: domination. It is, of course, a fairy tale. When I first moved back to Ohio from San Diego, I was struck by how people hate the winter up here; and now I know why. They hate it because it interferes with their human mind plans. The human mind insists that this has to be done today; they can’t do without me at work; that project is too important; I’ll get fired if I don’t at least try to get to work. All these things point to the false beliefs of  the human mind ego.The Truth is that Life continues. Another day will dawn. The work will still be there as will the opportunities; and if not THAT one, then infinite more will be there. Still, you don’t know that until you surrender to the Natural Order of things and not begrudingly, but gratefully and joyfully.

Don’t you remember snow days as a child? A whole day stretched before you to enjoy the bountiful snow in whatever way you chose. And you enjoyed it carefree…that’s the point…carefree. To do that, you have to “let go” and know that somehow this is perfect. It is a gift; and it will all turn out even better than what your human mind could have worked out.

Relax. There is this wonderful thing called Well Being. It keeps the planets in their orbits and your personal heart beating. Well Being has brought this storm to Cleveland today. There is nothing “to do”; rather it is time to just be and allow. Revel in this moment; enjoy the respite and know that all is Well. Watch and see.

looking for love in all the wrong places?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Good Morning Everyone!

What’s love got to do with…money, relationships, health, your experience of life? Everything. Anything or anyone who feels unloved isn’t presenting in the world in a nice way. In fact, evil is simply the absence of love. Illness is the absence of Love. Poverty is the absence of love. Why? Because Love is Source Energy, the Fullness of all that is Good, which is the True Self of all of us.

We all have “stories” about our lives. My folks didn’t love me; my spouse abused me; my family didn’t do this or that…and we carry these stories around like badges, recreating them over and over again…living the same experiences over and over again with different faces; but it’s the same old story. I didn’t get enough Love. In every act of everyday we are trying to “get” more Love. What’s weird about that is that we ARE Love and the place where we aren’t getting enough love is from our Self.   We are Love; yet, we don’t know it; we don’t realize it, therefore we don’t have the EXPERIENCE OF IT, because we keep playing the same old tunes repeatedly searching for Love in all the wrong places: out there when it’s in here.

There is nothing you cannot let go of if you know how to “drop it”. You want a better relationship here and now, stop telling the story of how “unloved” you were as a kid. You want more Quality Life experiences right here and now; then stop telling the stories of your miserable low quality experiences back when. It’s history. It’s long gone. It was never Real; merely real.

Most of all, start loving yourself. Gather together all those unloved parts of you and bring them into your fold. They are like long lost children waiting to be heard, loved and honored in your inner world. When your mind is racing negative thoughts of doom and gloom, it’s those unloved, unrecognized and abandoned parts of you that are clamoring to be LOVED. And here’s the really Good News: once you love them, their stories dissolve. There is nothing on Earth that more Love won’t fix or cure. Nothing. For Love is the stuff, the glue, the common denominator of us all.

Love yourself first; then watch everything in your personal experience change.

Applied Spirituality offers a self-study audio course that will guide you back home to yourSelf where Love is right here, right now; it’s called You Are Enough...and you already Are.

Enjoy the song, Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places and imagine that the song is about you finding You.

the new gerontology: thinking for yourself

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Good Morning Everyone,

Just when I think a certain way, something or someone comes along to dispel my “traditional thinking” and examine where I might be inflicting limits on myself. Take Ida Keeling, for example. If I could, I’d hug her. Ida is a competitive runner at age 95. She began her running career at age 67.

I’ve always suspected that aging was optional, but when I look around for examples, they are few. Most people begin the slow, downhill decline around age 50. You hear them say, “I’m old.” or “At our age, ….” They have worked all their lives and now are buying one of those ubiquitous mobile homes traveling the country. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course; but what if there’s more? What if “retirement” is the beginning of something new and wonderful instead of step one towards decline and death? What if life could look like happy/healthy, happy/healthy, happy/healthy…dead? We are alive and vibrant until we step on over at a time and date of our  conscious choice with a big party?

I love the story of Ida Keeling, because she’s living whilst she’s alive and on the planet. She refuses others’ limitations as hers. She has chosen thoughts and ideas of her own and is living them out. She inspires me greatly. If Ida can begin running at age 67, then the path is wide open for me and everyone else to design a Quality Life into the triple digits of our own imagining. This is applied spirituality: allowing Infinite Intelligence to flow through our minds unobstructed by limiting beliefs, into our bodies and out into our physical creations.

The key? Drawing Life Force through you everyday. Allowing It to Flow fully through you (your mind and body) unobstructed by thoughts and beliefs of human mind that say you can’t do this, be this or have that. We are 96% Source Energy, Infinite Intelligence, God, Awareness call it what you will, and 4% physical body and human mind. Let the dog wag the tail, not the other way around.

Thank you Ida. I am grateful for your presence on the planet; and I am truly, deeply inspired to live fully all my days…my way. I’m going to help Ida write the new book on gerontology. How about you?

silencing the human mind

Good Morning Everyone!

My human mind awoke this morning wanting to drag me into its “story”. What story? My son deploys today, that story. Yammering on, I could feel myself getting dragged down into its negative thoughts. Whoa! It occurred to me that I had several choices here. I could continue letting my human mind drag me from pillar to post feeling worse by the second; I could stop it; I could watch it; I could welcome it; I could release it. I didn’t have to suffer. I had choices.

Well, whatever I chose, it wasn’t going to be feeling bad to worse. I began breathing in to the count of 3 and out to the count of 5 getting a good rhythmic rolling breath going, focusing on my breathe. Poor human mind can only focus on one thing at a time; and I was not about to be the victim to the “tail” wagging the “dog”.  Then I decided to “welcome in” these worrisome thoughts, continuing my rhythmic breathing.

“Welcome worry, welcome fear, welcome sadness, welcome longing to be there. Come in for you are welcome here.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Welcome the belief that I need to change, alter, amend, conceal, edit or diminish you in anyway. Welcome.”

“Welcome the notion that these feelings and thoughts are personal to me. Welcome the idea that I alone, little me, i am alone in this feeling; it is mine. Welcome. Welcome.” Breathing. Breathing.

“So, could you let this go?” I asked myself. Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“So, would you be willing to let this go?” Breathing. Breathing. Yes.

“When might this be?”

“Now.” Breathing. Breathing.

“Now could you welcome in the IMPERSONAL nature of these thoughts and ideas?” Breathing. Breathing.

“Yes.”

“And what is present right here, right now? Is there a separate you that is suffering from these thoughts?”

Breathing. Breathing. “No.”

“So then, what is present right here, right now?”

“Only Awareness. Life. Well Being. Awareness is breathing me. Life is.” Breathing. Breathing.

“How does that feel now?”

“Spacious. Limitless. Oneness. Well. All is Well.”

spirituality and business: no oxymoron

Good Day Everyone!

Connected with Source Energy

Recently someone asked me to put together a talk for a corporation without using the word spirituality. I was told that was the last word they wanted to hear. Yikes! Just goes to show you how people fear what they don’t know or understand. So I decided to address this in my blog.

Fact: There’s no such thing as a non-spiritual business or organization. Period.

We are all Spiritual beings; humans and every physical form (manifestation) have their roots in nonphysical energy (thought) first. Nothing gets to the planet without being a thought form, first. So, banking or widgets, government or religious group, they are all Spiritual organizations…Yes, even hospitals and the military. Everything. Everyone.

To not recognize that or understand that completely is missing the boat. Every group is a spiritual group. We can create anything we want on earth: absolutely anything. I think some of the misperceptions come into play when you think that a spiritual group is going to look like something other than what you expect. They’re going to be off meditating before the board meeting or kneeling in prayer before battle. Not.

The big misconception is that spirituality=good. Earth is a free will zone. Everything gets to be here. That’s pretty obvious, don’t you agree? So this begs the question, what’s the point? Or what’s the different? Or what exactly are we looking to experience?

MORE Quality. Good. Joy. Humor. Fun. Collaboration. Willingness. Expansion. Exuberance. Innovation. Inspiration. Fullness. Satisfaction. Solutions. Exhilaration…LIFE!

Source Energy, which we all already ARE at our core, is the highest, purest, fastest frequencies. We feel this Quality in every moment: either a lot of it or none of it or every shade (emotion) in between. Just because you’re at work doesn’t mean you’ve left your Internal Guidance System at home. Just because you’re singing in the choir at church doesn’t mean you’re allowing Source Energy to flow through you and you’re feelin’ the Love.

Spirituality Defined:

Spirituality is the measure of someone’s personal, most intimate relationship with Self. It has nothing to do with church or religion nor is it left behind because you don a three piece suit or a military uniform. Your Self is always with you. The question is are you aligned with Self (Source) or not, how much Light are you allowing to flow through your unit right NOW? That is spirituality. How connected are you in any given moment to Source, which is YOU.

The spiritual business already is. The question now is: How much Source Energy is allowed in? The degree to which each individual within the business/organization brings Self to the table, is the degree that prosperity, abundance, creativity, joy, humor, innovation, inspiration, genius is created and experienced in the entity’s services, products, communications, etc. The greater the flow of Source Energy into anything, the more Good is manifested in the final product. Above all, it is the experience of feeling It as Good and Enlivening.

At the core of every successful business if Love. Listen to an excerpt from the online self study course to the book, Well Done – A Story of Applied Spirituality™.

valentine’s day is everyday

Happy Valentine’s Day to You!

Chelsea Garden, Solana Beach, CA

It was Valentine’s Day 1984. My Restaurant, Chelsea Garden, had just been reviewed by the local rag, The Reader, with rave reviews from Eleanor Widmer who regularly closed a restaurant a week with her acerbic comments. The Review came just in the nick of time. Having been open since December, we were only doing single digit dinners each night. Suddenly, we were famous on Valentine’s Day.

I was out running around trying to prepare for an onslaught of customers. When I returned, my Manager told me that someone had been by to meet me. I couldn’t imagine who or why. She said he wanted to meet the person who had finally won a great review from the Wicked Witch. He was a local restauranteur and club owner who invited us to come be his guests that evening after we closed. I passed it off turning my focus back to the business at hand. We were going to be very busy that evening; and, thank God, we were saved.

That evening after we closed, Manager and I went over to the Restauranteur’s Club as invited. It was very late, perhaps 12:30 am. There was a line at the door to get it. Standing there with a grin from ear to ear was a man whom I’d never seen before. As I approached, he asked me, “Can I help you?” I nodded, “I’m looking for Woody.” He grinned back saying, “You just found him.” In that nanosecond I felt as though I had already met him. I knew him, but of course, I didn’t. We stood staring at each other in the space of infinity both of us trying to fathom this irrefutable Connection. I looked at his face, seeing it for the first time; feeling his Spirit, I knew I’d known him for Eternity.

It was a love affair that has lasted for lifetimes. Woody passed away in 1997; but since then I’ve learned the absolute Eternality of Love. Love never dies and neither do we. At the time of Woody’s physical death, I was dismayed. Why did something so wonderful need to end? Yet over the years I have come to know that in Truth, Love never dies. It is a living breathing Entity that is Eternal leaving you free to Love over and over and over because you are so full. It is the unconditional Wind Beneath My Wings.

I wish this experience for everyone. Valentine’s Day is everyday.

egypt: the joy of freedom

Good Morning Everyone!

A Spiritual Revolution Manifesting in the Physical Experience

I was so overjoyed listening this this woman from Egypt in her joy that I had to share it. I was ruminating about how quickly and peacefully the Egyptian revolution happened as opposed to the American Revolution. Dr. King is smiling. But it’s right and good; it is natural as the nature of Spirit within everyone is freedom, growth and joy…reaching to realize in the physical world that which they already ARE. It’s like the daisy that pushes itself up through the asphalt; Life insists; Existence Is; and nothing can stop it.

However, President Mubarek was part and parcel of this coming about. He provided the “contrast” from which the Egyptian people chose a new route. In essence they have him to thank for making this revolution possible, as it inspired within the new desire for freedom in a powerful way.

Watch and listen to the jubilation in this woman’s voice.

I have no idea what the words are to this song, but I do feel the Energy of Life.

And so it goes, the desire for more; the answering; and the alignment with it. This is the evolution of mankind; the expansion of the Universe in its eternal dance. This is Applied Spirituality.

children: what they teach us

Good Morning Everyone!

Children are our teachers if we’re disposed to pay attention and stop trying to turn them into us. They are clear transparencies of Life Force, allowing It to flow through them unedited and unobstructed. That’s why they’re so joyful and innocent, they don’t have a bunch of junk in their human minds bending or distorting Life Force.

Watch and get a glimpse of where we need to go as adults: lose the human mind and regain our Divine Mind of joy. This is the natural process of Applied Spirituality

And here’s a grown up that gets it

You have your assignment: go forth, be silly, express the Joy that you are.
