the appearance of extreme weather: the opportunity to renew Life

Good Day Everyone!

Watching and experiencing the extreme weather this past week made me ask the question, “What’s the Real meaning of this severe weather?” The weather bureau reports that it is the result of La Nina, which to us in the Midwest means lots of snow, which by the way the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted! Although I think they used the words, “mild winter” in there. Obviously that must be a relative term.

As the massive snow storm spread across one third of the nation, I watched and experienced and wondered why. What I determined is that this is what it takes to finally slow us down, shut us up and have us relax in the dead of winter. Winter, you see, is the natural cycle of life where we are to be still, go within, reflect and evaluate where we have been and dream of where we might go next. The bears are in hibernation; the trees are dormant; and flower seeds and plants sleep awaiting the trigger to wake up and begin growing. Humans, however, insist on plowing on. We are determined to go when we should stay put. We demand the submission of nature so that we can go, run and do what our human minds would have us believe cannot wait because it is too important.

Yet, within each of us, whether we are conscious of it or now, are our desires to rest, be still, have a day off, peace, calm and new thoughts. Oh how we wish they would call a “snow day” for those of us who work. A day when we are not responsible for not making it in to work; one day where we can’t communicate with them because the power is out; one day where we could snuggle in, drink cocoa, dream, rest and have a fresh new thought.

The Big U answered our prayers. It sent us the mother of all storms. We were granted a day or two to be still and accept the blessing to renew ourselves. Perhaps next time there is a huge weather event you’ll see it differently and whisper a silent prayer of thanks and accept the holiday that you asked for and use it to allow more Life into yourself.

We are always creating by the focus of our spirit (life force), this is applied spirituality. But the Quality of our creations improves vastly when we are allowing more of Who We Really Are to flow through us. Snow gives us that opportunity.
